Biology in the 21th century is as fascinating as science gets… At The Hyve, we get to look into this wonderful world daily. We crunch the massive ‘omics’ datasets and ontologies, converting data into visualizations and knowledge. We do this by using and building open source software, because we believe science should be an open, public enterprise.

That is where The Hyve comes in. We provide our clients exactly with what they need to understand their biological data – whether that is genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics data or clinical observations. Where possible, we adapt existing open source software for this purpose, but always remaining mindful of the ultimate goal of our clients. In our view, software should adapt to users, not the other way around.""One of the challenges of our field is bridging the gap between bioinformatics and applied biology. This is no easy task – we have seen multiple cases where bioinformaticians built full-fledged software suites, and yet biologists ended up doing their calculations in Excel. The software is often very complex to use and yet still not flexible enough. Luckily, bioinformatics has a strong history of open source software.
